Dog Physiotherapy
What is it?
Dog physiotherapy is a science-based way to help your dog recover more quickly and live a better quality of life. Physiotherapy is often integral pre or post-surgery to manage and aid recovery from conditions that require veterinary intervention. It can also be used for faster and more sustained recovery from injury, and to aid in reducing injuries by encouraging the dog to use its body correctly during exercise.
Why do so many dogs get knee problems?
The knee is known as the stifle in four legged animals. The stifle is a composite joint - made up of smaller joints - the femerotibial, femoropatellar and proximal tibiofibular joints.
To keep these joints stabilised there are many ligaments and tissues involved and these can become damaged over time, through tiny repeated injuries, or through a sudden catastrophic injury.
The cruciate ligaments prevent abnormal movement of the tibia (shin bone) in relation to the femur (thigh bone) and the collateral ligaments run either side of the knee joint.
